How We Move Our Research Into Innovation

EpLink encourages collaboration and partnership with industry to search for innovation and commercial opportunities that can directly benefit the epilepsy community. Below is a list of ongoing projects that will bring our research into action:

Avertus Inc. Description: EpLink is collaborating with Avertus Inc. to develop an at-home brain wave monitoring (EEG) system to detect seizure onset and a SMART brain stimulation wireless system to prevent seizure activity.

Research Title: Epilepsy Brain State Classification, Assessment and Modification
Genuine Health Description: EpLink is working with Genuine Health to examine the benefits of adding 'healthy fat' supplements (omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids or PUFAs) to the diet for the management of seizures.

Research Title: A Double Blind, Placebo-Controlled Study of Omega-3 PUFAs in Epilepsy
Ketogen Pharma Description: EpLink is working with Ketogen Pharma to design and make new anti-seizure compounds for the treatment of drug-resistant epilepsy, which can later be tested in human clinical trials.

Research Title: Acetone Analogues as Novel Anticonvulsants
InterVivo Solutions Description: EpLink is working with InterVivo Solutions on early pre-clinical testing, proof-of-concept and safety studies of new anti-seizure medications.

Research Title: Acetone Analogues as Novel Anticonvulsants
EastGate Pharmaceuticals Technologies Description: EpLink is developing a new oral spray of lorazepam in partnership with EastGate Pharmaceuticals Technologies. This spray will provide safe, fast and effective treatment for emergency seizures at home and in the hospital.

Research Title: Development of a Transmucosal Lorazepam Spray for Treatment of Seizures

In addition to these projects, EpLink has a Drug Development Committee that provides expertise and guidance for our commercial efforts. Composed of Ontario’s industry leaders, the Committee advises EpLink on early-stage drug development processes, including the creation of start-up companies.
